Types of Massage

Not sure which massage is best for you? This depends on your individual needs. At AlViva Remedial Massage, we’ll develop the best personalised programme of treatment just for you, so that you enjoy the enduring benefits of your massage. First though, you’ll receive a thorough movement, posture and soft tissue assessment and a review of your symptoms, medical history and lifestyle. Then we’ll develop a personal remedial treatment plan especially for you, which can include:
Traditional Swedish Massage
This is the most common type of massage available in New Zealand and uses long, smooth strokes, kneading and other movements focused on the superficial layers of muscle. Regular Swedish massage can help to shorten recovery time from muscular strain, improve circulation and soothe the nervous system. It’s perfect for relieving stress and tension in your muscles and also a good place to start if you’ve never had a massage before. It is also an integral part of treatment, or remedial, massage.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage utilises slower strokes or friction techniques to ease areas of specific chronic pain or tension. It is used to treat conditions including (but not limited to) OOS, limited mobility, postural problems or osteoarthritis. Although there may be some discomfort with a deep tissue massage, you should never feel unbearable pain, and any discomfort should ease in a couple of days.
Sports Massage
Whether you’re a serious athlete or you just like to keep active, sports massage can help improve muscle health, enhance your performance, speed up recovery from training, competition or injury and reduce your risk of future injury. A combination of various massage techniques are used to meet your needs and complement your training programme.
Relaxation and Stress Relief
Lie back and enjoy this gentle massage aimed at reducing tension and anxiety. You’ll float out the door feeling relaxed and revived.
